Orvelter Hof is a former Drenthe farmhouse in Witteveen, converted into group accommodation. You always rent it in full: 17 bedrooms with private bathrooms, a large hall, a professional kitchen, a bar, a games attic and a south-facing terrace. There are no other guests.
On a family day that is the difference. The children can head for the playground while everyone else stays at the table. Anyone who is tired walks to their own room rather than to the car. And nobody has to be quiet by a particular hour.
The house stands in a quiet village, with heathland and woods five minutes away on foot. A walk after dinner needs no planning.

What there is to do on and around the yard
On a family day the difference is in the small things: that there is something for a four-year-old and for an uncle of seventy, without you having to draw up a programme for it. Most of what follows is simply there.

There is a volleyball court beside the house. No booking, no cost — a family match is usually the moment the day gets going.

The terrace faces south. The barbecue is available for a fixed amount covering gas and cleaning; you cook the food yourselves or have it provided.

A twenty-minute loop after dinner, or a proper hike: the Dassenpad is 3.5 km, the Mantingerzand 4 or 12 km and the Orvelterzand 8 km.

The kitchen is professional and you are welcome to use it. With a large family, cooking together is often the best part of the day; the kitchen pack can be added for a small charge.

Arrive Monday 17:00, leave Friday 10:00. Midweek the house is at its quietest and the rate at its lowest. Up to € 2,600 depending on the period.
All amounts are for the whole venue for up to 36 people, including 21% VAT and wifi. Added to that: final cleaning € 425.00, bed linen € 14.50 per person, energy € 3.95 per person per night and tourist tax € 2.95 per person per night. The deposit is € 350.00 and is returned within 14 days of departure. Midweek, a shorter period or a smaller group is sometimes possible — do ask.

Why a family day runs differently here
A family day in a function room or restaurant runs on the clock. There is a start time, a finish time, and the bill grows with every round. In between you share the space with a party celebrating something else.
Here you rent the whole building. That means no other guests, no closing time and no shared spaces: the hall, the bar, the kitchen, the games attic and the terrace are all part of the let. Go to bed at ten if you like; sit at the bar until two if you prefer.
Because everyone sleeps in the same place, nobody has to drive at the end of the evening. With a family spanning three generations that is often the practical argument that settles it.

There are 17 twin rooms, sleeping 36 in total. Every room has its own toilet, shower and basin. The large hall holds up to 36 people; up to 30 at round tables. A cot can be added for € 7.50.
We let the venue in full, with a minimum of two nights. A two-night weekend starts at € 2,850 in 2026 and rises to € 3,300 depending on the period; a four-night midweek stay starts at € 2,200. Final cleaning, bed linen, energy and tourist tax are added to that. Every period is listed on the rates page.
As standard we let by period, with a minimum of two nights. Midweek, a shorter period or a smaller group is sometimes possible — it depends on the calendar. Call or email with the date you have in mind and we will see what can be done.
Yes. There is a playground right beside the terrace, a games attic with a table tennis table and a volleyball court in the garden. The grounds are car-free once you have parked. A cot costs € 7.50. Pets are not allowed.
You may, and the kitchen is professional enough for it. But you do not have to: we provide buffets and barbecues, and there is a luxury breakfast buffet. A barbecue costs € 35.00 for gas and cleaning; the food we arrange on request.
Yes, when we cook for you. Tell us when you enquire and the kitchen will take them into account. Vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free and allergies are no problem; we just want to know well in advance.
In Witteveen, in the middle of Drenthe. It is roughly a 25-minute drive from Assen and Emmen, 20 from Hoogeveen, and about an hour from Groningen or Zwolle. There is ample free parking right by the door — thirty spaces, so even a family arriving in ten cars will fit.
